The journey of a Mechatronics student from the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering to Manager at Canon Vietnam Co., Ltd
Mr. Ngo Van Quyet, an alumnus from the Mechatronics major at the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering (SMAE), Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI), is a prime example of serious academic dedication, an innovative mindset, and rapid adaptability to professional demands. He currently holds the key position being Manager of Assembly 3 TS at Canon Vietnam Co., Ltd, which is a pivotal role that requires high-level technical expertise and outstanding personal qualities.
Sharing his reason for choosing Mechatronics major, Mr. Quyet said, "I was drawn not only to the field's high degree of practical application but also to the strong reputation in technical education held by SMAE." From his very first days at university, he clearly identified that while technical knowledge is the foundation, soft skills and attitude are the decisive factors for long-term growth. He actively took part in extracurricular activities, clubs, presentations, and competitions. It was these experiences that helped him hone crucial soft skills such as communication, presentation skills, teamwork, and especially, confidence. He shared, "Knowledge of PLC programming, automation systems, and skills with software like Solidworks... were extremely helpful, but it was the soft skills that were the key factor in helping me develop rapidly in my career."

Joining Canon Vietnam Co., Ltd in 2012, Mr. Quyet faced a work environment with high personnel stability – a significant challenge for a young person. However, through his professional flexibility, soft skills, and progressive spirit, he quickly affirmed his capabilities and became one of the youngest managers at Canon Vietnam Co., Ltd
One of Mr. Quyet's notable achievements is a project that completely changed the component supply method at Canon. Instead of using AGV Robots, which often caused congestion, he proposed and built a 100% automated overhead supply system. This solution improved transportation efficiency and reduced inventory, bringing great benefits to the company. This success is a testament to the cultivation of creative thinking and the ability to apply knowledge to practice – core values that SAME always emphasizes in its training.

When asked about the necessary qualities for a high-quality engineering student, Mr. Quyet offered two core pieces of advice:
- Master specialized knowledge: Focus on becoming an expert in your field of study, creatively applying knowledge to real-world projects and tasks.
- Cultivate attitude and soft skills: "Attitude over aptitude" – a positive attitude will help you overcome any challenge. Let’s learn foreign languages, communication skills, team management, and reporting skills. He believes that even if you aren't the best, if you know how to leverage the strength of the collective, you will achieve great things.

Mr. Quyet also encourages students to actively participate in projects and gain practical experience while still in school. Only by "learning paired with practice" help you realize where you stand and what you need to add to improve yourself.
A message that Mr. Quyet wants to send to students is: "Besides studying diligently, always maintain a positive spirit and attitude. Believe that you will overcome all challenges if you always keep a positive attitude; success will soon come to you."
The story of Mr. Ngo Van Quyet is a valuable lesson on the combination of a solid knowledge foundation, scientific thinking, and a positive attitude. This is also a testament to the quality of training of SMAE, which not only provides solid specialized knowledge but also nurtures creative thinking and leadership qualities, making it an ideal destination for those who wish to develop comprehensively and break through in the field of technology and engineering.
