On January 30st, 2026, PhD Candidate Nguyen Hong Tien successfully defended his doctoral dissertation in Mechanical Engineering. The research results were highly appreciated by the Dissertation Evaluation Committee for their scientific and practical value.

By simultaneously applying design and surface treatment solutions, PhD Candidate Nguyen Hong Tien completed his dissertation titled: "Research on improving the wear resistance of high-load extrusion screws using design solutions combined with HVOF coating". The project was completed under the expert guidance of two prestigious scientists: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tuan Linh - School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering (SMAE), Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI), and Dr. Nguyen Van Thien – HaUI’s Vice Rector. The Dissertation Evaluation Committee was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Bong - HaUI, alongside members who are experts and scientists from prestigious universities.

The research of PhD Candidate Nguyen Hong Tien has contributed a highly applicable scientific approach to the design and improvement of industrial extrusion screws. In the coming time, the candidate proposes focusing on three main development directions: Optimizing HVOF thermal spraying technology with new material systems to adapt to harsh conditions; Applying artificial intelligence and optimization algorithms to automate geometric design and predict wear; and conducting experiments on various raw materials and load capacities. In particular, the development of smart extrusion screws integrated with sensors will facilitate predictive monitoring and maintenance, thereby maximizing the efficiency and reliability of production systems.

The Dissertation Evaluation Committee highly appreciated the scientific significance, reliability, and novel contributions of the dissertation. With 7/7 approval votes, the Committee recommended that HaUI recognize the academic degree and award a Doctoral degree to PhD Candidate Nguyen Hong Tien.
