Science and Technology Activities of the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering: The Journey of Innovation for Sustainable Development

On the occasion of Vietnamese Science and Technology Day (May 18th, 2025), School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering (SMAE), Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI) proudly looks back at its important contributions to the development of science and technology in the country. With the mission of training high-quality human resources and researching advanced technologies, SMAE has constantly innovated to integrate with the world and meet the requirements of modern science and technology, for sustainable development.

More than half a century ago, President Ho Chi Minh once advised: "Science must be closely linked to production and life, and must practically serve the masses of people". That teaching, like a compass to guide the development of the nation, becomes even more relevant in the context of globalization and the fourth industrial revolution, when science and technology are both the driving force for growth at the macro level and the factor that improves the quality of life, modernizes production, promotes sustainable development and international integration.

In the face of geopolitical fluctuations and fierce competition in science and technology on a global scale, more than ever, SMAE is deeply aware of its responsibility and role in training and developing a high-quality scientific team to research and master the core technologies and the most advanced technologies today. Carrying on its shoulders the great pride and responsibility: Contributing to bringing Vietnamese science and technology closer to the regional and world level, shortening the development gap and affirming the country's position with the world powers.

Looking back on the development journey, SMAE is proud to have implemented hundreds of topics at all levels, published hundreds of scientific articles in prestigious ISI/Scopus journals and owned many inventions and useful solutions applied in practice. In particular, the trust and cooperation from many leading domestic enterprises and industrial corporations in ordering research and technology transfer cooperation with the School's research groups has demonstrated the increasingly affirmed reputation and application capacity. Some students of the School have had international publications, which clearly shows the academic potential and global integration capacity of the young generation of researchers who are gradually maturing.

The international scientific conference organized annually by SMAE attracts a large number of domestic and international scientists with many new studies, which have many practical applications.

SMAE has signed cooperation agreements with many universities and research institutes around the world to integrate science and technology.

Developing a team of high-quality intellectuals and scientists is a consistent strategic orientation of SMAE to realize the goal of sustainable development. The School is gradually building policies to attract, employ and create a favorable academic environment for scientists, experts and researchers to have the conditions to maximize their professional capacity, stay long-term and make practical contributions to the development of the School. The School pays special attention to forming strong research groups, interdisciplinary research groups and potential research groups with an orientation towards international integration. Strengthening connections with research groups and institutes at home and abroad, especially in key technology fields, is an inevitable step to improve the quality of publications, expand the global academic and technological network, contribute to affirming the School's research position in the rankings, and at the same time spread the value of Vietnamese science to the world. The School considers promoting cooperation with businesses as a pillar in its innovation strategy. This is an important bridge to help shorten the gap between research and application, promote knowledge transfer, create scientific and technological products to serve production and life, contributing to improving national productivity and competitiveness. SMAE aims to become an influential center for applied research and innovation in the country and the region, while creating a dynamic, effective and sustainable research - innovation - startup ecosystem.

Following the path of science is the most difficult path, but it is also the most glorious path. That journey, although requiring perseverance, dedication and many sacrifices, the glory it brings is not only scientific achievements, but also practical contributions to the development of society, bringing a better, more civilized life to the people and for a strong and prosperous Vietnam.

SMAE will continue to accompany scientists, experts and students to promote their bravery and intelligence to create core technologies, products and solutions of national and international stature, creating a unique mark of SMAE on the academic and technological map of the country and the region, gradually integrating deeply into the global value chain.
