Welcoming K21 Freshmen to the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering: Embarking on a Journey of Knowledge and Building the Future
Joining the joyful atmosphere of preparations for the new academic year, on 27 August 2026, the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering (SMAE), Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI), organized the Freshmen Welcome Program and Orientation Week for Freshmen for the K21 intake. Through the program, the School not only helped new students quickly integrate into the new learning environment but also provided them with basic knowledge of training regulations, students’ rights and responsibilities, career orientation, and necessary skills to study and train effectively in the university environment.
Representing the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Tien Dung, Rector, members of the School’s Board of Directors, heads of its units, lecturers, and specialists. The program was also attended by a representative of Yamaguchi Vietnam Co., Ltd., guest speaker Dr. Nguyen Kim Dung, a lecturer at Hanoi University, and nearly 1,600 - K21 freshmen at the Ninh Binh campus.
A vibrant day of experience, connection, and discovery
From early morning, the C19 courtyard was bustling with a series of interactive, networking, and exploration activities for freshmen. Booths, mini-game areas, check-in spots, and other interactive activities attracted large numbers of students. At the booths, freshmen had the opportunity to explore models and modern training equipment, outstanding STEM products, scientific research projects, and innovation projects developed by the School’s students and lecturers. These activities not only allowed the new cohort to explore a hands-on learning environment but also helped them gain a clearer understanding of their chosen fields of study and future academic and career opportunities.
In addition, the network of student clubs, the Youth Union, and the Student Association organized a variety of engaging networking activities, creating a youthful, dynamic, and inspiring atmosphere. The enthusiastic support of lecturers and students from previous cohorts helped the freshmen overcome their initial unfamiliarity and confidently integrate into university life.

Accompanying students on their career development journey
The official program took place in a solemn yet warm atmosphere. It opened with vibrant cultural performances by the Youth Union and art clubs, bringing youthful energy to the welcome event. Through an introductory video about Hanoi University of Industry and the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, the freshmen learned about the School’s history, notable achievements, training strengths, and development strategy for the coming period.
Delivering the welcome address, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Tien Dung, Rector of the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, congratulated the K21 freshmen and affirmed that the School would continue to support them and create the best possible conditions for their comprehensive development in terms of knowledge, skills, and professional competencies. He emphasized that students should proactively develop study plans, strengthen their professional, foreign-language, and digital skills, and nurture creativity, a sense of responsibility, and a desire to contribute in order to meet the increasingly demanding requirements of the labor market in the era of international integration and digital transformation.

One of the highlights of the program was the ceremony honoring the ten students with the highest entrance scores in the School’s academic programs. The meaningful awards from the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, together with sponsorship from Yamaguchi Vietnam Co., Ltd., recognized the students’ academic efforts and provided additional motivation for their pursuit of knowledge in the years ahead.

Speaking on behalf of the partner company, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong Lan, Head of Human Resources at Yamaguchi Vietnam Co., Ltd., affirmed her company’s continued commitment to supporting the School in organizing internships, company visits, practical training programs, and student recruitment activities. She shared: "Today, we meet as representatives of a company and as students, but I hope that in a few years’ time, we will meet again as colleagues - as engineers working together to create new value for businesses and society."

Building a Strong Foundation for the Journey Ahead
As part of the Orientation Week for Freshmen, K21 freshmen received practical guidance from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Tu, Vice Rector of the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, on academic regulations, the credit-based learning system, student affairs, and study and personal development plans at university. The information shared helped students understand their rights and obligations as learners, improve their awareness of regulatory compliance, and develop a positive and proactive attitude toward learning and research.

In particular, the seminar “Learning to Become Independent and Take Control of University Life as a First-Year Student,” presented by Dr. Nguyen Kim Dung, offered practical perspectives and positive inspiration to the students. Her sharing on adapting to a new environment, time management, academic goal-setting, and personal development helped the freshmen feel more confident as they entered a new environment full of opportunities and challenges.

The program concluded with networking activities, a Q&A mini-game with prizes, and lively introductions from student clubs, creating many memorable experiences for the newest members of the SMAE family. The Freshmen Welcome Program and Orientation Week for Freshmen for the K21 in 2026 was successfully concluded, leaving a lasting impression on the new cohort. With the essential knowledge and initial preparation provided by the School, together with the support of lecturers, enterprises, and students from previous cohorts, the K21 freshmen are now ready to embark on their university journey with confidence, initiative, and the ambition to achieve new heights.
