International Conference SETSM 2026: Affirming the Position of a Reputable Scientific Forum on Smart Manufacturing and Sustainable Development

On 15/4/2026, at Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI), the 3rd International Scientific Conference on Sustainable and Emerging Technologies for Smart Manufacturing (SETSM 2026) was officially inaugurated. The conference attracted nearly 250 research papers submitted by scientists and experts from numerous countries, reaffirming SETSM’s role as a reputable and influential academic forum in the fields of smart manufacturing and sustainable development.

In the context of global industry facing pressure between comprehensive digital transformation and green development requirements, SETSM 2026 serves as an important platform for knowledge exchange, academic networking, and proposing key technological solutions for the future of modern manufacturing. The conference brought together leading scholars and experts from Germany, Russia, India, South Korea, Japan, France, Vietnam… The academic exchange among countries with advanced industries brought multi-disciplinary research directions, spanning from smart materials, additive manufacturing, renewable energy, to digital transformation and advanced manufacturing organization models.

Speaking at the plenary session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Dong – Vice Rector of HaUI, Head of the Organizing Committee, stated: “Vietnam is facing significant challenges in meeting international green standards. This is the time we must tightly link smart manufacturing with green transformation. The application of AI, IoT, and Big Data is not only essential for cost optimization but also a tool to digitize supply chains, promote the circular economy, and the realization of double-digit GDP growth."

Emphasizing the practical relevance of the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Tien Dung - Rector of the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, remarked: In 2026, the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering commits to continuing as a solid bridge, , fostering collaboration across core disciplines such as precision mechanics and automation with digital technologies and renewable energy. Four representative keynote presentations at the plenary session outlined a comprehensive overview of the dominant technology trends of the future:

Prof. Giulio Mattera – University of Naples “Federico II” (Italy) introduced Machine Learning solutions applied in the monitoring and certification process of metal additive manufacturing using Deep Learning - an advancement that helps achieve international quality standards during the printing process.

Prof. Chen-Kuei Chung (National Cheng Kung University) analyzed aspects of Mechanical Energy Harvesting for Ring-Integrated Circuits and data security technology and digital forensics were also analyzed in depth.

SETSM 2026 was organized with 01 plenary session, 12 parallel thematic sessions and 04 poster sessions, flexibly combining in-person and online formats, maximizing conditions for academic exchange and research collaboration.

The success of the conference clearly demonstrates the leading role and strong organizational capacity of the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, HaUI in scientific activities. Not only limited to its educational mission, the SMAE is step by step affirming itself as a connecting hub between the international scientific community and enterprises, promoting the intersection of precision mechanics, automation and clean energy.

SETSM 2026 has concluded, but the scientific issues and technological solutions raised will continue to serve as the foundation for research groups to realize ideas, contributing to turning challenges into competitive advantages.
