Dr. Duong Van Thiet, an enthusiastic lecturer who spreads passion for semiconductor technology
In the journey of constantly exploring knowledge and conquering technology, School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering (SMAE) is proud to have a team of quality lecturers who not only impart knowledge but also inspire generations of students. Among them, Dr. Duong Van Thiet is a shining figure - a dedicated lecturer, a researcher in the field of semiconductor technology, with international study experience and practical work at the prestigious Samsung Group.
After graduating from the Major of Engineering Physics, Dr. Duong Van Thiet chose to study for a Master's and PhD degree at the Department of Physics, Ulsan University, Korea. This decision stemmed from his passion for materials research and nanotechnology - a new and potential field in Vietnam. The international environment has trained him to be highly independent in research and work, forming a confident mindset to find solutions and implement ideas effectively.

After completing his doctoral program, Mr. Thiet decided to work at a large corporation in the technology industry: Samsung Group in Vietnam. As a product failure analysis expert, he had the opportunity to directly apply his in-depth knowledge of semiconductor materials and technology to a challenging practical production environment. Despite facing high-speed pressure at work, with his perseverance, ability to apply knowledge and manage work effectively, he quickly adapted and achieved many outstanding achievements in important projects.

Semiconductor material is a strategic field that Vietnam is developing. From the perspective of an expert who has worked in a practical environment, Mr. Thiet shared that mechanical and materials engineers play a key role in the semiconductor value chain, especially in the stages of production, packaging and quality control. Mechanical engineers can design highly precise mechanical systems for production equipment, ensuring micro and nano-level precision, vibration control and ultra-precision machining modes with modern technologies such as laser and plasma cutting technology. Materials Engineers develop new materials, optimize thin film manufacturing process (such as CVD, PVD, ALD), control material properties such as adhesion, conductivity, mechanical strength and are responsible for product failure analysis. These are promising opportunities for students’ SMAE who are being equipped with a solid foundation of knowledge to participate in this potential industry.
With extensive practical experience and achievements in scientific research, Dr. Duong Van Thiet has contributed many valuable works. A typical example is the topic "Research on manufacturing and optimizing thermoelectric properties by heat treatment on two-dimensional materials: SnSe, (Sb, Bi)2Te3" of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, which was accepted in 2021. More recently, he is also the head of the topic "Research on manufacturing thin films of iron oxide materials and investigation of structural and electromagnetic properties" which is going to be accepted at the department level, continuing to affirm his in-depth research capacity.
Dr. Thiet shared that the secret to maintaining passion for research and balancing between academics and applications is to always try his best and convey new knowledge, issues found from research to discuss with students. Each class with him is not only about imparting knowledge but also about sharing valuable practical experiences, inspiring passion and critical thinking in students.

For students, especially those who want to pursue a career in semiconductor materials or high technology, Dr. Thiet advises that in addition to solid specialized knowledge, students should actively participate in scientific research projects from the second year, cultivate foreign languages - English or any other language in the world, practice soft skills and most importantly, clarify the career orientation early.

The message from Mr. Thiet is an affirmation of the value of dedication: "Every young lecturer and student should always try their best in teaching, learning and keep in mind that one day, lectures and research ideas of lecturers and students will be applied to practice at companies. Every lecture and student's approach to learning is an innovation and will be a startup in the future."
The joy and happiness of Dr. Duong Van Thiet when seeing his students grow up day by day
Dr. Duong Van Thiet is one of the prides of SMAE, demonstrating the quality of training and the connection between theory and industrial practice. He is not only a lecturer but also a motivator, opening new horizons and futures for the generation of Vietnamese technology engineers.
